REMARKS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, ANYIM PIUS ANYIM, GCON,
SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNMENT OF THE FEDERATION AT
THE GROUP DINNER IN HONOUR OF LAUREATES OF THE
NIGERIAN NATIONAL ORDER OF MERIT HELD AT
TRANSCORP HILTON HOTEL, ABUJA ON
5TH DECEMBER, 2013.
It is my privilege to give a short remark on behalf of the Federal Government to this gathering in this relaxed atmosphere as the climax to the series of events of the sixth Annual Forum of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) Laureates and the Award of the NNOM to three distinguished Nigerians earlier today by His Excellency, the President. Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, who was represented by His Excellency, Arc. Namadi Sambo, GCON, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In the course of the series of activities which commenced on Tuesday, 3rd December, 2013, scholarly papers were presented which captured the essence of the theme “The information Communication Technology Revolution as a Platform for National Transformation”.
The Chairman of the Governing Board of the NNMA, when he presented the Communiqué of the Forum to Mr. President earlier today, spoke extensively on this theme and the need to establish a Foundation to be known as the National Research Foundation. From the Investiture of the three (3) new NOM members, we can say that Nigeria now have 70 distinguished Nigerians who are Laureates of the
Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM). This is by any means a formidable pool of the talent and expertise of patriotic and committed Nigerians for the government and indeed the private sector to draw from.
This evening, however, we are not gathered to discuss business in the strict sense of it, but to unwind and interact after the hectic days spent by all preparing for the Forum and the Investiture. I once again congratulate the Board and all those involved in organizing a most successful event. My congratulation also goes to the three new Laureates and their families, as they celebrate another milestone in their brilliance.
Bon appetite and journey mercies as you return to your respective destinations.
Thank you for your attention.
